HEP came to my house in Lenoir City to repair (put back in place) some vinyl soffit pieces on the roof over hang. I had several of these around the house and most were high off the ground. Stephen Lemoine was EXCELLENT. Stephen was knowledgeable, courteous, completed the repair in less time than I expected, and gave me additional needed information without trying to over sell. The pricing was fair. I would recommend HEP and Stephen in particular. By the way, it was maybe the hottest day of the year but Stephen didn't let that hinder the work.🙂

The service was very fast. We had a technician out to check our furnace and he kindly informed us they no longer make the parts that we would need, which is understandable as the unit was manufactured in 1997. They were able to get a team out the very next day to install a new HVAC unit and furnace, these gentlemen worked extremely hard from daylight to dark finally finishing up around 9 PM. They had everything up and running and we’re so quiet and thorough. I barely knew they were there! We did have an issue with the unit cooling after start up. I called the following morning and had a technician out within a few hours that fixed the issue. Overall, the entire process was extremely easy, fast, and thorough. We have a roofing project to begin next week with this company as well and only expect great things going forward!

Roofing Done Right in New Market: Why Homeowners Trust HEP

Roofing is the frontline defense of every home in New Market, shielding families from summer storms, winter ice, and every surprise the East Tennessee climate can throw. When leaks form or shingles curl, the entire structure is at risk—yet too many roofing projects are rushed, under-planned, or handled with cut corners. HEP follows a strict “roofing done right” philosophy, ensuring that every phase, from inspection to final cleanup, meets a higher bar for workmanship, durability, and long-term value.

The High Stakes of Roofing in New Market’s Climate

New Market’s location in the Great Appalachian Valley creates unique roofing stressors:

  • Heavy spring rainfall that exposes hidden leaks
  • Intense UV radiation in midsummer that accelerates shingle aging
  • Sudden temperature swings in autumn and early spring, leading to thermal shock
  • Frequent wind gusts that can lift poorly fastened shingles or ridge caps

Because the town sits in a microclimate where humidity levels remain elevated, mold spores and algae can thrive on a roof’s surface if moisture is trapped beneath deteriorated materials. HEP’s roofing specialists have fine-tuned techniques that anticipate these challenges, choosing premium underlayments, precise ventilation strategies, and algae-resistant shingles so clients avoid recurring headaches.

HEP’s Roofing Done Right Process

1. Comprehensive Roof Assessment

A successful roof replacement starts with diagnosis, not demolition. HEP technicians climb the roof, inspect the attic, and capture high-resolution images. They measure:

  • Shingle granule loss
  • Flashing integrity around chimneys, skylights, and vents
  • Decking moisture readings
  • Ventilation ratios

This data-first approach prevents guesswork, allowing the team to build a tailored system rather than offering a “one-size-fits-all” roof.

2. Material Selection Driven by Performance

HEP curates roofing materials that have passed rigorous ASTM testing, selecting:

  • Architectural asphalt shingles with Class A fire ratings
  • High-temperature ice-and-water shield membranes for eaves and valleys
  • Synthetic underlayments that repel water yet allow vapor escape
  • Galvanized steel drip edges and flashing to deter rust in humid conditions

By focusing on product longevity, HEP reduces lifecycle costs for homeowners and diminishes landfill waste from premature tear-offs.

3. Precision Installation

Skilled roofing crews operate under a code of detailed craft. Practices include:

  • Six-nail shingle patterns on slopes prone to uplift
  • Starter strips with adhesive tar lines to lock down first-row shingles
  • Closed-cut valley techniques that channel torrential rain with zero exposure
  • Custom-bent flashing fabricated on-site for exact angles

Each step is photographed, documented, and stored in a digital log. When storms hit years later, HEP can reference the original installation data to expedite any warranty service.

4. Site Protection and Cleanup

HEP treats every property like a jobsite and a home simultaneously. Crews:

  • Roll out heavy-gauge tarps to shield landscaping
  • Install magnetic nail traps around the perimeter each evening
  • Utilize dump trailers positioned on driveway boards, preventing cracks or oil stains

Homeowners often step outside post-installation to find flowerbeds untouched and only the fresh, crisp lines of a new roof suggesting work ever occurred.

The Core Principles Behind HEP’s “Done Right” Approach

Craftsmanship Over Speed

In an era where rapid turnover drives many contracting schedules, HEP refuses to compress cure times for sealants or skip re-nailing of decking. Teams adhere to manufacturer specifications even if it adds hours to the timeline—a practice that preserves warranties and prevents callbacks.

Localized Knowledge

New Market’s rolling hills and patchwork of historic and newly built homes require nuanced techniques. HEP estimators understand everything from aging cedar shake beneath asphalt overlays in pre-war farmhouses to modern ridge vent configurations demanded by contemporary gabled constructions.

Transparent Communication

From the first consultation, clients receive:

  • Digital copies of inspection photos
  • Written scope of work detailing every flashing replacement and ventilation upgrade
  • Daily progress updates through a mobile portal

By demystifying the process, HEP eliminates the anxiety homeowners often feel when a crew climbs on their roof and vanishes for hours.

Addressing Common Roofing Issues in New Market

Hail Damage: Hidden but Harmful

Hail strikes may leave dents invisible from the ground yet compromise the shingle’s asphalt mat. Over months, UV rays widen the fissures, leading to leaks. HEP’s technicians use chalking and infrared scanning to reveal bruised shingles, replacing only affected areas or advising a full reroof when necessary.

Ice Dams: When Freezing Rain Meets Poor Ventilation

Inadequate attic insulation allows heat to escape, melting snow that refreezes at eaves. Ice dams trap additional meltwater, forcing it beneath shingles. HEP resolves the root cause by installing proper baffles, sealing attic bypasses, and placing high-temperature membranes in vulnerable zones.

Wind Uplift on Steep Ridges

New Market experiences sudden gusts funneled through gaps in the plateau. HEP secures ridge shingles with polymer-modified adhesive strips and uses ring-shank nails to resist pull-through, safeguarding steep rooflines common in the area’s cabin-style builds.

Advanced Ventilation Techniques for Humid Summers

Balanced Intake and Exhaust

Hot, moist air trapped in an attic accelerates decking rot and spikes energy bills. HEP balances:

  • Soffit vents for cool air intake
  • Ridge vents for hot air exhaust

Using smoke pencil testing, technicians verify that airflow ushers moisture out uniformly, preventing condensation pockets.

Solar Attic Fans

For homes with complex roof geometries or shaded ridges, solar-powered fans provide supplemental exhaust without additional wiring. HEP ensures flashing on the fan base is woven into shingles to avoid leaks.

Sustainable Roofing Options Offered by HEP

While asphalt remains popular, environmentally minded homeowners can explore:

  • Recyclable metal roofing panels that reflect solar heat and last half a century
  • Composite shingles made from post-industrial polymers, mimicking slate without the weight
  • Cool-roof coatings that lower attic temperatures and reduce HVAC load

HEP educates clients on the embodied energy, recyclability, and local code compliance of each material so the environmental benefit aligns with structural integrity.

The Role of Underlayment in Roofing Done Right

Synthetic vs. Felt

Traditional felt absorbs moisture and can wrinkle, compromising shingle lay-flat. HEP opts for woven polypropylene underlayments with:

  • Higher tear resistance
  • UV exposure ratings up to six months, allowing weather delays without product degradation
  • Non-skid surfaces that improve crew safety

Ice-and-Water Shield Placement

Critical locations include:

  • Eaves extending 24 inches inside the warm wall
  • Valleys where two slopes meet
  • Penetrations such as vent stacks and skylights

HEP’s installers overlap membranes per manufacturer requirements and roll them with pressure seamers to guarantee adhesion, creating a watertight base layer.

Flashing: The Unsung Hero of Leak Prevention

Chimney Flashing

Brick chimneys expand differently from wood framing. HEP fabricates step flashing layers interwoven with shingles, then tops them with counter-flashing neatly cut into mortar joints, sealing with non-staining polyurethane.

Dormer and Sidewall Flashing

Sidewalls present vertical runs where rainfall cascades heavily. Instead of surface caulk, HEP tucks step flashing behind siding, ensuring water sheds beneath the exterior cladding.

Drip Edge

A continuous metal lip guides water into gutters, protecting fascia boards. HEP fastens drip edge under the first shingle course yet over ice-shield, directing meltwater away from vulnerable plywood edges.

Attic Insulation: The Quiet Partner of a High-Performance Roof

Uneven insulation leads to hot spots that melt snow. HEP recommends R-38 to R-49 fiberglass or cellulose blow-in, paired with sealed attic hatches and recessed light covers. This holistic solution supports the roof’s external defenses with internal energy efficiency, lowering utility costs and extending shingle life.

Gutters and Roof Synergy

Although gutters appear separate, their function interlocks with the roof’s edge design. HEP ensures:

  • Proper slope so water flows swiftly, reducing ice buildup
  • Hidden hangers fastened to rafter tails for greater pull-out strength
  • Oversized downspouts that handle torrential summer rains

By synchronizing gutter installation with roof replacement, the entire system acts as one seamless water management solution.

Storm Preparation and Emergency Services

Pre-Storm Inspections

HEP encourages seasonal checkups where technicians secure loose flashing, re-seal vents, and identify vulnerable limbs overhanging the roof. These proactive measures often save homeowners significant post-storm repairs.

Temporary Tarping

When a sudden tree strike punches a hole, crews deploy heavy-duty tarps and battens, mitigating interior water intrusion while the permanent repair plan is crafted. Attention to airflow beneath the tarp prevents condensation and mold during the interim period.

Roof Decking: The Foundation Beneath Shingles

Plywood vs. OSB

HEP evaluates existing decking for delamination or swelling. Where rot is found, crews replace sections with APA-rated sheathing of equal thickness, staggering seams for structural rigidity. Nail spacing and ring-shank fasteners ensure code-compliant uplift resistance.

Radiant Barrier Add-Ons

In new builds or complete tear-offs, HEP can install radiant barrier decking that reflects radiant heat. This addition, combined with proper ventilation, lowers attic temperatures during New Market’s hottest months, preserving HVAC lifespan.

Skylight Integration without Leaks

Curb-Mounted vs. Deck-Mounted

HEP analyzes roof pitch and moisture exposure zones before recommending skylight type. Curb-mounted models allow broader flashing systems and superior water shedding. Flashing kits are layered with ice-and-water shield for redundancy.

Condensation Control

Internal skylight channels collect moisture droplets. HEP pairs skylights with humidity-controlled ventilation fans in bathrooms and kitchens to avert condensation damage around frames.

Seasonal Maintenance: Extending Roof Lifespan

Semiannual Visual Checks

Homeowners are encouraged to:

  • Inspect gutter flow during rain
  • Scan for missing shingle tabs from ground level
  • Look inside the attic for daylight penetration

HEP offers detailed maintenance programs where trained eyes spot and resolve issues early, maintaining warranty coverage.

Moss and Algae Prevention

In shaded neighborhoods, algae streaks appear as dark stains. HEP installs zinc or copper strips near the ridge; rainfall activates metal ions that inhibit organic growth.

Roofing Safety Standards Followed by HEP

Crew Training

Workers hold fall protection certifications and undergo quarterly safety audits. Harness anchorage points are tested before each project.

Equipment

  • Pneumatic nailers calibrated daily to prevent overdriven nails
  • Ladder stabilizers that protect gutter edges
  • OSHA-approved scaffolding for multi-story structures

These precautions protect both the crew and the homeowner’s property.

The Warranty Structure Behind HEP’s Confidence

Manufacturer Material Coverage

Premium shingles come with limited lifetime warranties against manufacturing defects. Because HEP follows strict installation guidelines, these warranties remain intact and transferable.

Workmanship Guarantee

Beyond manufacturer promises, HEP backs labor with its own multi-year guarantee. This covers installation flaws like flashing leaks or improper ventilation setup.

Documentation

Clients receive a digital packet containing:

  • Serial numbers for roofing materials
  • Photos of each underlayment phase
  • Ventilation calculations

This evidence streamlines any potential claims and reinforces transparency.

Roofing Aesthetics: Blending Protection with Curb Appeal

Color Coordination

HEP consultants evaluate:

  • Brick or siding tones
  • Shutter and door colors
  • Landscape elements

Architectural shingles come in nuanced blends—weathered wood, driftwood gray, rustic cedar—allowing the roof to serve as a complementary design feature.

Architectural Accents

Upgraded hip and ridge caps, copper valleys, or standing seam accents on porch overhangs create visual interest. HEP’s design previews help homeowners envision the finished product before the first shingle is nailed.

Energy Efficiency Upgrades During Roof Replacement

Cool Pigment Technology

Reflective granules reduce heat absorption. Homes with HVAC systems in the attic benefit most, as cooler attic temperatures ease equipment strain.

Integrated Solar Panels

HEP partners with certified solar installers to embed low-profile photovoltaic modules within the new roof. Flashing trays integrate seamlessly, eliminating the need for later penetrations that can void warranties.

Local Building Codes and Permit Compliance

New Market’s municipal regulations dictate:

  • Minimum wind-uplift resistance
  • Fire classification based on zoning
  • Ice-shield coverage along eaves

HEP handles permit submission, inspections, and final approval documentation, ensuring the roof meets every standard before sign-off.

Signs Your Roof May Need Immediate Attention

  • Shingle granules collecting in downspouts
  • Sagging rooflines indicating decking failure
  • Daylight visible around attic penetrations
  • Water stains on ceiling drywall
  • Unexplained spikes in heating or cooling bills

If any of these red flags appear, prompt professional evaluation prevents more extensive structural damage.

Vent Stack and Accessory Integration

Plumbing Vents

Boots must flex with temperature changes. HEP selects high-grade silicone boots rated for UV stability, reducing cracking common with PVC collars.

Satellite Dishes and Antennas

Mounting hardware attaches to rafters, not decking, and includes gasketed bases. When existing dishes reside on roofs slated for tear-off, technicians create new mounts on fascia or gables to minimize shingle penetrations.

Deck and Porch Roof Tie-Ins

Many New Market homes feature covered porches or sunrooms with low-slope roofs adjoining steep main structures. HEP employs:

  • Transition flashing pans beneath step flashing on the main slope
  • Self-adhering modified bitumen on low-slope planes
  • Counter-flashing embedded in brick or stucco walls

This comprehensive tie-in protects both roof systems at the juncture line.

Chimney Cricket Construction

When a chimney is wider than 30 inches, water can pool behind it. HEP builds crickets—small peaked diverters—covered with the same shingle pattern. This redirection eliminates backsplash that erodes mortar joints and underlayment.
