What our customers say

HEP is by far one of the best companies, of any kind, I've ever dealt with. We've had HEP replace our HVAC system and just signed contracts with them for some major plumbing repair and a new roof. In our experience with HEP, we've found that they do everything, and they do everything really well. Which is great for us because we don't have to waste any time going through the giant pain process of finding contractors and then finding out if we can trust them. With HEP, the whole experience is like working with your brothers and sisters. Everyone we've met has gone out of their way to make us feel like we're part of their family. To me, the kind of quality service you get from that kind of a business relationship is worth its weight in gold. Thank you, HEP!

We called Hep for a leaking roof. They were quick to respond and when they came out took photos to show us what needed to be done. The mgr. who had come out to evaluate the job came back to ensure everything he told us was to be done would be done. He checked out the job and we felt secure knowing everything was checked on to have been done correctly and what wasn't was redone right. Would definately reccommend Hep for roof work.

UPDATING THIS REVIEW** Will turned out to be even better than I originally noted. He returned to inform me that my new roof was put down without removing any of the boards below it -- so turned out my problem wasn't related to the roofing job, and in that case, it was going to need to be something I resolved. Since my roof is under warranty, nobody else could fix the problem except for HEP without voiding my warranty. I'm a working, single mom and this year has been so expensive due to home repairs and such. Financially, it's a struggle. Due to being overwhelmed by the news of having yet ANOTHER repair I need to come out of pocket for -- knowing that I really don't have much money to fork out in one sitting -- I honestly got a little emotional. Will proceeded to reach out to get a price for me, and as I expected, the price was more than I had. I inquired about adding the balance to my current finance agreement, but since it had been over 60 days -- that wasn't possible. So I told Will I wouldn't be able to do it. I expected him to basically say okay & leave, but he persisted trying to find an option that was going to work for me. He reached out to another guy (a boss or management of some type, I think), and on my behalf, pleaded for an option. They were able to work something out for me & it really meant a lot to have him persist like that. I definitely appreciate Will (and the management individual that has dealt with me at my worst multiple times now). Definitely have a better overall view of HEP as a whole now. I didn't feel like I was being taken advantage of. I didn't feel like I was being sold something because I didn't know any better. It felt like a real human experience, and I definitely am appreciative!

We (Leroy and Helen Queen, my parents) had our leaky roof replaced by HEP at the end of July 2019. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish: from Joshua who recommended HEP for our roofing needs, to Jason our Sales Rep who measured and then inspected the finished work, to Chris in the office who helped us with the financing, to the crew of men that came out and did a marvelous job removing, installing, and then tidying up afterwards. We were mightily impressed; they worked so quickly. We highly recommend giving HEP a call for your roofing needs based on our own experience with them. They all worked really hard and quickly to get us a new roof; something we very greatly appreciate. Thanks HEP!

Expert Roof Replacement in Powell by HEP

A solid roof protects your home from rain, wind, hail, snow, and the relentless summer sun that Tennessee is known for. When the time comes for a complete roof replacement in Powell, homeowners need a contractor with deep expertise, advanced installation techniques, and a commitment to craftsmanship. HEP delivers precisely that combination. By integrating premium roofing materials with decades of hands-on knowledge, the team secures durable, energy-efficient, and visually striking results that stand up to the unique climate conditions of Powell and the surrounding communities.

HEP’s roof replacement specialists focus on every detail, from thorough inspections and structural assessments to final shingle placement and debris removal. Every nail, underlayment layer, flashing strip, and ridge vent is installed with precision to guard against moisture intrusion and unexpected weather events. When the project is complete, the homeowner has confidence in a roof that can withstand heavy downpours, freezing temperatures, and gusty winds without compromising curb appeal.

The Importance of Professional Roof Replacement

Protecting Your Home’s Structural Integrity

A roof is more than an exterior covering; it is an engineered system designed to channel water safely into gutters, anchor against wind uplift, and insulate living spaces. When shingles curl, granules wash away, or flashing begins to separate, water seeps under the surface and threatens rafters, trusses, insulation, drywall, and electrical components. Professional roof replacement by HEP prevents costly structural repairs by eliminating the weak points before major damage sets in.

Energy Efficiency and Comfort

An aging roof can allow conditioned air to escape, forcing heating and cooling systems to work harder. By installing upgraded underlayment, vapor barriers, and reflective shingles, HEP minimizes thermal bridging and stabilizes indoor temperatures. The result is lower energy consumption and a more comfortable living environment year-round.

Insurance and Property Value

A recently replaced roof often influences insurance rates and real estate transactions. Insurers view a new roof as a reduced risk, while potential buyers see it as a major maintenance item already addressed. HEP’s documented roof replacement services in Powell provide the paperwork and photographic evidence required for smooth insurance verification and positive home-sale conversations.

Signs Your Powell Home Needs a New Roof

Early detection of roofing issues prevents interior damage and ensures a replacement timeline that fits your schedule rather than an emergency call. Homeowners should monitor the following indicators:

  • Shingles with missing granules, exposed fiberglass, or curling edges
  • Dark streaks or algae growth that return quickly after cleaning
  • Soft spots or sagging sections noticeable from the attic or curb
  • Frequent roof leaks, especially after moderate rainfall
  • Flashing that pulls away from chimneys, skylights, or valley joints
  • Moss buildup along shaded north-facing roof sections
  • Rising utility bills with no other explanation
  • An asphalt roof that is 20–25 years old, or a metal roof exceeding its intended service life

If two or more of these warning signs occur simultaneously, scheduling a professional roof assessment with HEP’s Powell team becomes essential.

Materials HEP Uses for Durable Roof Replacements

HEP sources roofing materials from manufacturers that meet strict performance standards. Each material is suited for specific architectural styles, homeowner preferences, and environmental conditions.

Asphalt Architectural Shingles

  • Multi-layer construction for enhanced durability
  • Wind resistance ratings up to 130 mph
  • Wide color palette to match brick, siding, and trim
  • Cost-effective solution for most single-family homes

Metal Roofing Panels

  • Standing seam or ribbed profiles with hidden fasteners
  • Lifespans of 40–70 years when properly maintained
  • High solar reflectance index (SRI) to reduce heat gain
  • Recyclable content promotes environmental responsibility

Synthetic Slate and Shake

  • Engineered polymers mimic natural stone and cedar textures
  • Significantly lighter than authentic slate, easing structural strain
  • Resistance to cracking, splitting, and insect activity
  • Class A fire rating and high impact resistance for storm resilience

Modified Bitumen and Single-Ply Membranes

Although residential sloped roofs dominate Powell’s housing landscape, HEP also replaces low-slope or flat residential roofing systems.

  • Superior waterproofing for porches, additions, or modern flat-roofed designs
  • Heat-welded seams that form a continuous barrier
  • Reflective coatings available for energy savings

Step-by-Step HEP Roof Replacement Process in Powell

1. Comprehensive Roof Inspection

HEP’s project manager begins with a detailed inspection that includes attic ventilation assessment, moisture mapping, and structural evaluation. Photographs and written notes document problem areas.

2. Tailored Project Proposal

The homeowner receives a clear outline of material options, color choices, estimated timeline, and warranty details. HEP explains each component so the homeowner understands the benefits and expected performance.

3. Site Preparation and Safety Measures

Before the first shingle is removed, HEP technicians cover landscaping, secure outdoor furniture, and establish safety zones. Dumpsters are positioned for debris containment, and fall-protection systems are installed according to OSHA guidelines.

4. Old Roof Removal

Layers of shingles, underlayment, and flashing are stripped down to the decking. HEP crews inspect the plywood or OSB sheathing, replacing any water-damaged sections to ensure a stable foundation for the new roofing system.

5. Installation of Underlayment and Flashing

Ice-and-water shield is applied to eaves, valleys, and around penetrations, followed by synthetic underlayment across the remaining deck. Corrosion-resistant flashing is added at critical transitions, creating a watertight barrier.

6. Ventilation Upgrades

Proper airflow prevents excessive heat buildup and moisture accumulation in the attic. HEP installs ridge vents, soffit vents, or static vents based on roof architecture and square footage calculations, maintaining the ideal balance of intake and exhaust.

7. Shingle or Panel Installation

HEP aligns each shingle course or metal panel with precise spacing, nailing schedules, and overlap tolerances. Attention to manufacturer specifications preserves warranty eligibility and maximizes wind resistance.

8. Finishing Details

Hip and ridge caps, drip edges, pipe boots, and chimney flashing complete the watertight assembly. Sealant is applied where necessary, and fasteners are double-checked for proper seating.

9. Cleanup and Magnetic Nail Sweep

The crew performs a thorough site cleanup, collecting stray debris and running powerful magnets across the yard and driveway to capture nails. Gutters are cleared of any shingle granules or fragments.

10. Final Inspection and Documentation

The project manager inspects the finished roof with the homeowner, addressing any concerns immediately. Photos, warranty certificates, and maintenance guidelines are provided for future reference.

Safety Standards and Certifications

HEP adheres to rigorous safety protocols to protect both workers and residents. Each crew member completes training programs covering:

  • Fall protection and harness systems
  • Ladder setup and secure footing
  • Safe material handling to prevent strain injuries
  • Weather monitoring procedures for wind, lightning, and high heat conditions

Certified installation credentials from major shingle and metal manufacturers validate HEP’s dedication to best practices, ensuring warranties remain intact and performance specifications are met.

Energy Efficiency Benefits

Reflective Shingle Technologies

Many architectural shingles installed by HEP feature reflective granules that reduce heat absorption. Lower attic temperatures translate into decreased HVAC runtimes and extended system life.

Ventilation Balance

Proper intake and exhaust ventilation prevents heat and moisture buildup that can degrade insulation R-values. HEP calculates the exact vent requirements based on attic square footage, pitch, and climate data for Powell’s humid subtropical environment.

Insulation Compatibility

When decking repairs reveal insufficient attic insulation, HEP advises on adding blown-in cellulose or fiberglass to reach current Department of Energy recommendations, maximizing the return on the new roof investment.

Architectural Style Compatibility

Powell’s neighborhoods range from traditional ranch homes to modern craftsman builds. HEP tailors roof replacement designs to preserve or even enhance architectural character.

Traditional Ranch and Split-Level Homes

  • Dimensional asphalt shingles in earth tones complement brick or siding
  • Low-profile ridge vents maintain clean rooflines

Craftsman and Cottage Styles

  • Architectural shingles with pronounced shadow lines for depth
  • Copper or painted metal accents on porch roofs create visual interest

Contemporary Designs

  • Standing seam metal roofs in matte black or charcoal deliver sleek aesthetics
  • Hidden fasteners and crisp vertical seams align with minimalist geometry

Weather Challenges in Powell and How HEP Addresses Them

Powell’s climate includes sweltering summers, occasional snow and ice, and severe thunderstorms. HEP counters these conditions with:

  • Ice-and-water barriers along vulnerable eaves to prevent ice dam penetration
  • Class 3 and Class 4 impact-rated shingles that resist hail damage
  • Metal roofing finishes that deflect UV radiation, slowing color fade
  • High wind nailing patterns and starter strips that lock shingle edges in place

Maintenance Tips After Roof Replacement

Keeping a new roof in top condition extends its lifespan. HEP recommends:

  • Semi-annual visual inspections from ground level for missing shingles or flashing gaps
  • Gutter cleaning each spring and fall to prevent water backup
  • Trimming overhanging branches to reduce debris accumulation and abrasion
  • Checking attic ventilation openings for blockages
  • Promptly addressing small storm-related issues before they escalate

Environmental Responsibility

HEP recognizes the importance of sustainable roofing practices and incorporates eco-friendly measures whenever possible.

Material Recycling

  • Asphalt shingles removed during roof replacement are sent to facilities that repurpose them into roadbed material, minimizing landfill usage.

Cool Roof Options

  • Light-colored or reflective metal panels can lower roof surface temperatures, reducing urban heat island effects and energy demand.

Rainwater Management

  • Properly pitched roofing and correctly sized downspouts help harvest rainwater for landscape use or guide it safely away from foundations, mitigating erosion.

Warranty and Quality Assurance

All roof replacement projects are backed by dual coverage: the manufacturer’s product warranty and HEP’s workmanship guarantee. Homeowners in Powell gain peace of mind knowing that material defects or installation issues, though rare, will be addressed promptly. Detailed warranty documents spell out coverage durations, transferability, and maintenance requirements to keep agreements valid.

Common Roofing Problems in Powell Neighborhoods

Understanding recurring issues helps homeowners recognize when to seek a professional evaluation. HEP’s service records reveal patterns such as:

  • Thermal cracking of shingles due to intense sun exposure
  • Flashing separation where temperature swings cause expansion and contraction
  • Nail pops during freeze-thaw cycles, creating entry points for water
  • Algae streaks along shaded roof sections, especially on north-facing slopes
  • Clogged box vents from wind-blown debris and nesting insects

By addressing these problems in the replacement design, HEP reduces the likelihood of repeat occurrences.

Benefits of Choosing a Local Powell Roofing Team

HEP’s proximity to Powell provides homeowners with advantages that out-of-area contractors struggle to match.

Rapid Response

Weather events can strike with little warning. A local team mobilizes quickly for emergency tarping or fast-tracking a replacement schedule when significant damage occurs.

Familiarity with Building Codes

Powell follows zoning and construction ordinances enforced by Knox County. HEP’s familiarity with permitting requirements, inspection milestones, and code updates ensures seamless compliance throughout the project.

Community Accountability

A local presence builds long-term relationships. Craftsmanship quality remains high because neighbors and word of mouth form the backbone of HEP’s reputation in Powell.

Preparing Your Property for Roof Replacement Day

A smooth installation starts with homeowner readiness. The following checklist helps protect belongings and streamline the project:

  • Park vehicles away from the driveway to clear space for material delivery and dumpsters
  • Remove fragile items from walls and shelves, as roof work can create vibrations
  • Cover attic items with plastic sheeting to shield against dust
  • Secure outdoor décor, potted plants, and grills away from falling debris zones
  • Inform children and pets of restricted areas around the job site

Post-Installation Support

HEP’s commitment does not end when the last shingle is nailed. Homeowners receive:

  • A maintenance schedule tailored to roof type and local weather patterns
  • Annual inspection reminders to catch minor issues early
  • Clear instructions for filing warranty claims should a manufacturer defect arise
  • Expert guidance on integrating solar panels, skylights, or gutter guards without voiding coverage
