HEP came to my house in Lenoir City to repair (put back in place) some vinyl soffit pieces on the roof over hang. I had several of these around the house and most were high off the ground. Stephen Lemoine was EXCELLENT. Stephen was knowledgeable, courteous, completed the repair in less time than I expected, and gave me additional needed information without trying to over sell. The pricing was fair. I would recommend HEP and Stephen in particular. By the way, it was maybe the hottest day of the year but Stephen didn't let that hinder the work.🙂

The service was very fast. We had a technician out to check our furnace and he kindly informed us they no longer make the parts that we would need, which is understandable as the unit was manufactured in 1997. They were able to get a team out the very next day to install a new HVAC unit and furnace, these gentlemen worked extremely hard from daylight to dark finally finishing up around 9 PM. They had everything up and running and we’re so quiet and thorough. I barely knew they were there! We did have an issue with the unit cooling after start up. I called the following morning and had a technician out within a few hours that fixed the issue. Overall, the entire process was extremely easy, fast, and thorough. We have a roofing project to begin next week with this company as well and only expect great things going forward!

Spoke with Jason and was very happy. This was an estimate for roofing repairs, Jason was very polite and professional. He took the time to point out any issues he found and had a valid explanation for each concern. Jason answered all my questions and I feel he was honest and didn't sugar coat or inflate any concern. We have used Hep in the past for plumbing and was happy with that too. We have another estimate to get but its going to be hard to be the confidence I feel in Jason after our talk. We had some interior ceiling repair also by Tom and Jimmy, excellent job. Impressed with the texture matching.

HEP Roofing Done Right in Cleveland: Excellence Above Everything

Cleveland’s skyline testifies to the endurance of structures that survive lake-effect snow, sharp temperature swings, and high winds off Lake Erie. In this challenging climate, HEP’s “roofing done right” philosophy delivers peace of mind for homeowners and property managers who want more than shingles nailed to plywood. They want craftsmanship, science, and accountability bundled into one dependable service. This comprehensive guide explores how HEP raises the roofing standard across Greater Cleveland, what makes the company’s workflow unique, and why its roofs remain resilient year after year.

The Meaning of “Roofing Done Right”

“Done right” is not a tagline for HEP; it is a multi-step methodology that touches every phase of a project.

  • Thorough pre-installation inspection and documentation
  • Transparent material selection anchored in Cleveland climate data
  • Precise installation techniques certified by leading manufacturers
  • Post-installation quality audits
  • Long-term support through maintenance programs

By embedding checkpoints from planning to aftercare, HEP transforms roofing from a one-time transaction into a long-term asset management strategy.

Understanding Cleveland’s Roofing Challenges

Lake-Effect Snow Loads

Cleveland averages upward of 60 inches of annual snowfall. Wet, dense snow accumulates quickly, placing enormous pressure on rafters, decking, and fasteners. Roofs must be engineered to shed weight efficiently while retaining structural integrity.

Freeze–Thaw Cycles

Daily temperatures can swing from sub-freezing mornings to above-freezing afternoons. This cycle expands and contracts roofing materials, testing seams, adhesives, and flashing. HEP specifies flexible membranes and cold-tolerant sealants to prevent micro-fractures that turn into sizable leaks.

High Wind Events

Storm fronts rolling off the lake create gusts in excess of 50 mph. HEP counters uplift risks with six-nail patterns on asphalt shingles, hurricane-rated fasteners on metal panels, and mechanically attached or fully adhered single-ply membranes for flat roofing.

Elevated Humidity Levels

Summer humidity can exceed 90 percent, encouraging mold and algae. Proper ventilation, ridge vents, and breathable underlayments are part of HEP’s core design to keep attics dry and comfortable.

Material Options Curated for Cleveland Properties

HEP does not push one “universal” product. Instead, their estimators match roofing systems to unique property profiles.

Asphalt Shingle Systems

  • Architectural and designer profiles available
  • Class-A fire ratings
  • High-definition granules coated for algae resistance
  • Warranties often exceeding 30 years with HEP’s certified installation

Standing-Seam Metal Roofs

  • 24-gauge steel or 0.032-inch aluminum
  • Concealed fasteners for sleek appearance and reduced leak potential
  • Reflective coatings that lower summer cooling costs
  • Lifespans reaching 50 years or more

Synthetic Slate and Shake

  • High-impact polymers mimic the charm of natural slate or cedar
  • Significantly lighter loads than real stone or wood
  • Colorfast technology resists UV fading

Commercial Single-Ply Systems

  • TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) membranes for heat-welded seams
  • EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) for superior UV performance
  • PVC options where chemical resistance is critical
  • Available in adhered, mechanically attached, or ballasted configurations

Modified Bitumen for Low-Slope Roofs

  • Multi-layer redundancy protects critical joints
  • Polyester or fiberglass reinforcements handle thermal expansion

HEP’s Six-Phase Project Pathway

Delivering consistent quality requires structure. HEP follows a six-phase pathway that tracks each roof from concept to ongoing maintenance.

Phase 1 – Consultation and Needs Analysis

An experienced roof specialist evaluates:

  • Age and type of existing roof
  • Current insulation R-values
  • Attic ventilation performance
  • Drainage patterns around eaves and valleys
  • Potential code upgrades

Phase 2 – Detailed Proposal and Scope Definition

Instead of generic line items, HEP compiles:

  • CAD drawings or aerial measurements
  • Specified underlayment types (ice & water shield, synthetic, felt)
  • Fastener counts matched to wind zones
  • Estimated project timeline with weather contingency days

Phase 3 – Material Procurement and Logistics

HEP leverages supplier partnerships to secure:

  • Factory-fresh bundles protected from moisture exposure
  • Color-matched accessories—drip edge, flashing, ridge caps
  • On-time delivery scheduling to reduce site clutter

Phase 4 – Site Preparation and Safety

  • OSHA-compliant fall protection on every slope above 6/12
  • Magnetic sweepers to capture stray nails
  • Staging zones that keep pathways clear for occupants

Phase 5 – Installation Under Strict Checkpoints

Supervisors verify:

  • Deck integrity before underlayment
  • Seam overlaps per manufacturer spec—usually 6 inches on ice shield
  • Fastener depth to avoid over-driving that can damage shingle matting
  • Correct shingle exposure for optimal wind resistance

Phase 6 – Post-Installation Audit and Maintenance Plan

  • Infrared camera inspection for hidden moisture pockets
  • Documentation package including photos, warranties, maintenance schedule
  • Optional annual tune-up to extend roof lifespan

Safety Above All Else

Roofing can be hazardous. HEP’s safety culture safeguards crews and inhabitants alike.

Ventilation and Insulation: The Hidden Heroes

A roof’s performance hinges on what the eye doesn’t see.

Balanced Intake and Exhaust

  • Soffit vents supply fresh air at the eaves
  • Ridge vents exhaust warm, moist air out the peak
  • Net free vent area (NFVA) calculations ensure proper balance

Attic Air Sealing

HEP’s team identifies gaps around:

  • Plumbing stacks
  • Chimney chases
  • Electrical penetrations

Sealing these holes reduces energy loss and controls moisture migration.

Insulation Upgrades

Whether blown-in cellulose or closed-cell spray foam, proper R-value:

  • Lowers heating costs during Cleveland winters
  • Protects shingles from heat-related blistering in summer
  • Qualifies some properties for energy-efficiency tax credits

Common Roofing Myths Debunked

  • “A new roof guarantees I will never have a leak.”
Properly installed roofs resist water intrusion, but punctures from tree limbs or ice dams can occur without regular maintenance.

  • “Ventilation is only for summer heat.”
Ventilation also lowers winter condensation, preventing mold and rafter decay.

  • “Extra layers of shingles offer better protection.”
Multiple layers add weight and mask underlying damage, violating many building codes.

Why Property Managers Trust HEP for Multi-Family Projects

Roof Replacement vs. Roof Restoration: Decision Factors

Replacement

  • Required when decking is compromised by rot
  • Advisable for roofs exceeding intended life expectancy
  • Often bundled with insulation and ventilation upgrades

Restoration

  • Suitable for flat roofs with stable substrates
  • Involves cleaning, repairing seams, and applying a high-grade coating
  • Extends life 5–10 years at reduced material consumption

Key Performance Indicators Monitored by HEP

  • Leak-free days post-installation
  • Warranty claim rate below 1 percent
  • Safety incidents per 10,000 labor hours
  • Material waste reduction year over year

Data drives continuous improvement, ensuring each project benefits from lessons learned on previous installations.

Roof Accessories That Elevate Function and Aesthetics

  • Ridge-mounted solar exhaust fans improving attic ventilation
  • Snow retention bars on metal roofs to prevent dangerous slides
