HEP came to my house in Lenoir City to repair (put back in place) some vinyl soffit pieces on the roof over hang. I had several of these around the house and most were high off the ground. Stephen Lemoine was EXCELLENT. Stephen was knowledgeable, courteous, completed the repair in less time than I expected, and gave me additional needed information without trying to over sell. The pricing was fair. I would recommend HEP and Stephen in particular. By the way, it was maybe the hottest day of the year but Stephen didn't let that hinder the work.🙂

The service was very fast. We had a technician out to check our furnace and he kindly informed us they no longer make the parts that we would need, which is understandable as the unit was manufactured in 1997. They were able to get a team out the very next day to install a new HVAC unit and furnace, these gentlemen worked extremely hard from daylight to dark finally finishing up around 9 PM. They had everything up and running and we’re so quiet and thorough. I barely knew they were there! We did have an issue with the unit cooling after start up. I called the following morning and had a technician out within a few hours that fixed the issue. Overall, the entire process was extremely easy, fast, and thorough. We have a roofing project to begin next week with this company as well and only expect great things going forward!

How Proper Roofing Impacts Energy Efficiency and Indoor Comfort

Heat Transfer and Insulation

A well-sealed roof limits conductive heat transfer by:

  • Maintaining consistent insulation thickness across the attic floor
  • Closing air gaps along top plates and penetrations

Ventilation Strategies

Balanced airflow mitigates temperature spikes and moisture buildup. Key practices include:

  • Installing continuous ridge vents paired with soffit vents to create natural convection
  • Supplementing with mechanical attic fans when architectural designs hinder passive airflow

Reducing Moisture-Related Issues

By channeling humid air out of the attic, a properly vented roof:

  • Prevents condensation that can foster mold growth
  • Protects structural elements from rot
  • Extends HVAC system life by lowering attic heat load

Sustainable Practices in HEP’s Roofing Done Right Approach

Eco-Friendly Material Disposal

HEP’s crews sort tear-off debris to divert recyclable components, such as:

  • Asphalt shingle granules repurposed for paving aggregate
  • Scrap metal ridges recycled through local facilities

Recycling and Re-Use Initiatives

  • Pallets and packaging materials are returned to suppliers whenever possible
  • Leftover underlayment rolls are donated to community projects rather than discarded

  • Winter: Monitor attic humidity and ensure proper ventilation is functioning

Preventive Measures Against Storm Damage

  • Trim overhanging branches to reduce impact risk
  • Secure loose siding and soffits that could compromise roof edges
  • Install surge protection for attic-mounted mechanical fans

When to Schedule Follow-Up Inspections

  • Immediately after severe hail or wind events
  • At the five-year mark to catch emerging issues early
  • Prior to selling your home to provide prospective buyers confidence in roof condition

Building Codes and Compliance in New Market Roofing

Permit Acquisition and Inspection Process

New Market requires roofing permits to ensure structural safety and neighborhood aesthetics. HEP handles every filing detail from start to finish, including:

  • Completing municipal permit applications
  • Scheduling pre-work meetings with inspectors
  • Coordinating mid-roof and final inspections to verify compliance

The company maintains a digital trail of documentation so homeowners can access project records whenever needed.

Code-Mandated Ventilation and Structural Requirements

Local ordinances reference the International Residential Code (IRC), which mandates:

  • Minimum ventilation ratios of 1 sq. ft. of vent area per 150 sq. ft. of attic floor
  • Fastener schedules designed to resist uplift forces of at least 110 mph gusts
  • Fire-rated underlayment near chimney chases

HEP integrates these requirements into its project plans, ensuring roofs meet or exceed every benchmark.

How HEP Ensures Documentation and Compliance

  • Photographing each construction phase for official records
  • Providing detailed roof diagrams to inspectors that outline fastener placement
  • Maintaining up-to-date contractor licensing and insurance certificates on file with the city office

The Science Behind Roofing Ventilation and Moisture Control

Stack Effect and Wind Effect Dynamics

Ventilation strategies capitalize on two natural forces: the stack effect (hot air rising) and the wind effect (airflow across vents). HEP calculates vent placement to harness both, allowing stagnant, moisture-laden air to exit the attic even on calm days.

Vapor Diffusion Barriers

To prevent interior humidity from entering the roof assembly, HEP installs:

  • Permeable house wraps to allow outward moisture diffusion
  • Closed-cell foam in critical transition zones where warm, moist air can condense

These measures work in tandem with ridge and soffit vents to keep deck materials dry year-round.

Data-Driven Monitoring

For complex roofs, HEP can incorporate smart sensors that log temperature and humidity levels beneath the decking. Data gathered over time helps fine-tune vent configurations, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement and scientific validation.

Storm Preparedness: Reinforcing Roofs Against Tornado Season

High-Wind Nailing Patterns

Instead of the standard four-nail pattern, HEP employs six-nail patterns on shingle tabs for added uplift resistance.

Enhanced Starter Strips

A wider, adhesive-backed starter strip forms a double-bonded seal at the eave line, guarding against wind intrusion during tornado-generated gusts.

Secondary Water Barriers

Self-adhering ice & water membranes are installed in valleys and along rakes, creating a redundant layer that prevents water infiltration if shingles are damaged.

Debris-Impact Mitigation

Where overhanging limbs are unavoidable, Class 4 impact-rated shingles provide an extra layer of defense by absorbing debris strikes without fracturing.

The Role of Roof Aesthetics in Neighborhood Cohesion

Color Harmony and Architectural Style

A thoughtfully selected shingle color can blend modern architectural elements with historic neighborhood charm. HEP offers digital visualization tools that allow homeowners to preview color options against existing facades before installation begins.

Texture and Shadow Lines

Architectural shingles with varied thickness create pronounced shadow lines that add depth, mirroring the dimensional qualities of wood shake but with superior durability and fire resistance.

HOA Compliance

Many New Market subdivisions have covenants that dictate roofing color ranges and material profiles. HEP reviews homeowner association guidelines in advance, submitting sample boards for approval to avoid project delays.

Common Roofing Accessories HEP Installs

  • Ridge vent systems that integrate visually with shingle lines
  • Seamless aluminum gutters color-matched to fascia boards
  • Snow guards on metal roofs to prevent sudden sheet shedding
  • Skylight flashing kits engineered to eliminate leak pathways
  • Solar mounting brackets pre-flashed during roof installation to accommodate future photovoltaic upgrades

Roof Deck Protection: Beyond Basic Underlayment

Synthetic Membranes vs. Traditional Felt

Synthetic membranes resist tearing, repel moisture, and remain stable under high temperatures—essential qualities during Tennessee’s scorching summers.

Ice & Water Shield Placement Strategy

While ice dams are less frequent in New Market than in northern climates, sharp temperature drops can still cause freeze-thaw cycles. HEP positions self-sealing membrane along eaves, valleys, and penetrations to block meltwater infiltration.

Drip Edge Integration

Proper drip edge installation prevents capillary water migration beneath shingles. HEP fastens metal drip edges using corrosion-resistant nails and seats them over the underlayment for maximum moisture defense.

Ventilation Upgrades That Complement Modern Attics

Ridge-Only Systems

Ideal for simple gable roofs with unobstructed ridgelines, providing unobtrusive exhaust airflow.

Hip Ridge Vents

Specialized vent designs navigate complex hip structures, maintaining an unbroken exhaust path.

Powered Attic Ventilators

When architectural complexities impede passive airflow, low-draw electric or solar fans supplement ridge vents, lowering attic temperatures by up to 15°F during peak summer heat.

Integrating Solar Readiness Into Roofing Done Right

Flashing for Future Panels

By installing pre-flashed mounting points, HEP minimizes the need for future roof penetrations, safeguarding the integrity of the waterproof envelope.

Conduit Planning

Stub-out conduit is routed to utility closets, simplifying future electrical tie-ins and preserving attic insulation continuity.

Load-Bearing Analysis

Decking and truss calculations ensure the roof can bear additional panel weight without structural reinforcement down the road.

Fire Resistance Considerations for New Market Homes

Class A Assembly Options

Metal roofs and certain asphalt composites achieve Class A ratings—critical for properties near wooded areas prone to brush fires.

Spark Arrestor Flashing

For homes with wood-burning fireplaces, spark arrestor flashing reduces ember escape, integrating seamlessly with the primary roofing system.

Non-Combustible Vent Screens

Steel mesh vent screens protect soffit and ridge openings from ember intrusion while maintaining airflow.

Advanced Leak Detection and Repair Strategies

Infrared Thermography

HEP technicians scan finished roofs with thermal imaging cameras, pinpointing temperature anomalies that often indicate moisture beneath shingles.

Drone Reconnaissance

Aerial imagery captures high-resolution views of hidden valleys and steep pitches, allowing crews to address micro-flaws before they evolve into leak points.

Sealant Compatibility Testing

Not all sealants adhere equally to different substrates. HEP conducts on-site adhesion tests to verify compatibility, preventing premature seal failures.

Long-Term Asset Management for Property Owners

Digital Maintenance Logs

Every inspection finding, repair, and material warranty certificate is archived digitally, giving homeowners an organized history of roof care for future reference or real estate transactions.

Scheduled Performance Audits

At preset intervals—such as two years post-install—HEP revisits completed roofs to benchmark granule retention, fastener integrity, and vent performance, reinforcing the “done right” philosophy through tangible follow-through.
