Cleveland Climate Considerations and Metal Roofing Performance

Lake Erie’s proximity influences Cleveland’s microclimate, generating rapid temperature fluctuations and abundant moisture in multiple forms. HEP engineers each metal roof to accommodate those regional stressors while preserving structural integrity and energy efficiency.

Snow Load Management

Cleveland commonly experiences snowfall totals exceeding 60 inches in a season. HEP integrates concealed fastening systems and reinforced panel seams to resist snow creep and uplift. Properly pitched planes and ice-shedding ridges help direct snow off the roof before critical loads build up.

Freeze-Thaw Resilience

Mild daytime thaws followed by sub-freezing nights can cause expansion and contraction cycles. HEP specifies alloys with balanced thermal movement characteristics, allowing panels to flex without mounting hardware loosening or seam failure. Engineered clips maintain secure attachment points while enabling controlled movement.

Wind Uplift Protection

Summer storms rushing off the lake can unleash gusts above 80 mph. Hemmed edges, interlocking panel profiles, and continuous underlayment secure the roof deck against wind driven rain and uplift forces. Independent lab testing verifies each system’s resistance to code specified wind speeds.

The HEP Metal Roofing Process

Consultation and Roof Assessment

HEP initiates every project with a thorough inspection of the existing substrate, ventilation pathways, and load-bearing capacity. Aerial imagery and on-site measurements establish accurate dimensions, while moisture meters identify hidden water infiltration.

Custom Design and Material Selection

Clients choose from a spectrum of standing seam, corrugated, and stamped metal profiles. Available metals include galvanized steel, galvalume, aluminum, and architectural-grade copper. HEP’s design team weighs each option against budget, aesthetic goals, and environmental exposure to recommend an optimal solution.

Precision Fabrication

Most panels are fabricated locally using computer controlled roll formers, ensuring tight tolerances and consistent quality. Flashings, ridge caps, and drip edges are custom cut to match roof geometry precisely, eliminating field modifications that could compromise weatherproofing.

Expert Installation

Certified installers fasten panels according to manufacturer guidelines and Ohio Building Code requirements. Underlayment layers—often self-adhering ice and water shields—provide redundancy against water ingress. Penetrations for vents, chimneys, and skylights receive factory-matched boots and butyl sealants for seamless integration.

Post-Installation Inspection

Upon completion, HEP conducts a multi-point examination, verifying seam alignment, fastener torque, and accessory fit. Thermal imaging cameras check for insulation anomalies. A comprehensive report documents compliance with project specifications, helping property owners maintain warranty coverage.
