Rigorous Safety Standards | Roofing Done Right | Roofing | Bristol
When Bristol homeowners and businesses choose HEP, they’re choosing a team that treats every project as a safety-critical operation. From the moment our scaffold touches your property, we follow a meticulously documented protocol: certified fall-arrest systems, daily equipment inspections, and site briefings that keep everyone—from apprentices to site visitors—aware of the day’s hazards. It’s this unwavering commitment that transforms an ordinary build into roofing done right, protecting both your investment and the people who work on it.
Our crews train year-round in the latest HSE regulations, eco-conscious waste handling, and emergency response drills, so the standard you see on site is never left to chance. Whether we’re renewing a Georgian slate in Clifton or installing an energy-efficient flat roof in Stokes Croft, we bring the same rigor, transparency, and local pride to every square metre. Trust HEP for craftsmanship that looks after your roof—and everyone beneath it.
FAQs
What safety qualifications do your Bristol roofing teams hold?
Every roofer on our crews carries a current CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card and has completed Working at Height, Manual Handling and Asbestos Awareness training. Site supervisors hold SSSTS or SMSTS certification, and the company is accredited by SafeContractor and CHAS, verifying that our management systems meet or exceed HSE safety guidelines.
How do you ensure compliance with UK and local Bristol roofing regulations?
Before any project starts, we carry out a site-specific risk assessment and produce a detailed Method Statement in line with HSE document HSG33 (Health & Safety in Roof Work). We liaise with Bristol City Council where permits, scaffolding licences or road closures are required, and all works are inspected against NFRC technical standards as well as British Standards BS 5534 (pitched roofs) or BS 6229 (flat roofs).
What measures do you take to protect my property, neighbours and the public during roofing works?
Scaffolding is erected by NASC-certified partners, complete with edge protection, toe boards and debris netting. We install temporary roof covers to keep your loft dry, use plywood and tarpaulins to shield gardens, and employ chutes or skip-loading platforms so no materials are thrown from height. A designated banksman controls deliveries, and noisy operations are scheduled within agreed hours to minimise disturbance.
How do you handle hazardous materials such as asbestos or lead flashings?
If a pre-1960s roof is suspected of containing asbestos cement, we take samples and have them analysed by a UKAS-accredited laboratory. Should removal be necessary, we engage a licensed asbestos contractor and issue you a copy of the consignment note. Lead waste, old bitumen felt and metal offcuts are segregated on site and recycled through approved facilities, with waste transfer notes supplied on completion.
What health and safety documentation will I receive as the client?
You will be provided with a full safety pack including: • Site-specific Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) • COSHH data sheets for any sealants, primers or coatings used • Weekly scaffold inspection reports • Toolbox talk records • Public/employers’ liability insurance certificates (£10 million cover). On hand-over we supply a Completion Certificate that confirms the roof has been inspected and meets all safety and technical criteria.
Do weather conditions affect your safety procedures or project timeline?
Yes. We continuously monitor Met Office forecasts and pause works if wind speeds exceed 23 mph for pitched roofs or 18 mph for sheet handling, or if there is lightning within 10 miles. Temporary edge protection remains in place during delays, and waterproof coverings are doubled-checked. We build weather allowances into our schedule, so while a pause may occur for safety reasons, overall completion dates are still realistically planned and communicated to you in advance.
